Kaylee's Response to Ryan P.
Like Ryan, in this week’s reading, you truly get the sense of importance
and love for winter that is presented in novel. It is interesting that the winter
is Amir’s favorite time of the year and the incident will change everything,
never letting Amir look at the beauty of it again. Like Ryan, I also respect
Hossenini in similar ways, his style in writing and descriptions properly set
up the most important qualities of each character. I commend Hossenini for writing
so candidly about him, revealing even the ugliest of thoughts. In response to
Ryan’s uncertainly about Baba, I believe that Baba shows contempt for his son
because he took the life of his beloved wife. This is an idea presented in many
works of literature and film. It is heartbreaking for both parties because I’m
sure Baba wishes he loved his son the way he is supposed to, yet it is
difficult for him to look at Amir everyday and envision his wife. I hope that
Baba will finally give the Amir the love he desires in the future. In regard to
Amir, my opinion of him is similar to Ryan’s in that I wish he respected and
appreciated Hassan more. I am curious to see what will happen next.
Unfortunately, I do not think that Amir will stand up for his friend Hassan.
Hassan is going to transform drastically in these next few chapters after the
incident. As Hossenini writes, “By the following winter, it was only a faint
scar. Which was ironic. Because that was the winter that Hassan stopped
smiling.”
