Ryan Pearson, I agree that it is sad to believe that this is our
last The Kite Runner discussion.
However, I do not like your comparison with Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged.
Atlas Shrugged was a pleasure to read!! But yes I am also thankful that
Shapiro made The Kite Runner the book for the quarter because it was
much shorter; therefore, we spent less time reading.
I also agree that Hosseini’s writing style is admirable.
However, I do not believe that it is his writing stile that changes the
readers’ opinions about the characters. I believe that the story line is what
changes your opinion about Amir. The story is a story about Amir’s redemption, which
makes the reader dislike Amir at first and like him towards the end.
I agree
that Hosseini did a good job switching back and forth from 1976 to 2001. But I do
disagree with you on the “fillers”. I believe that it was necessary for Hosseini
to put every bit of detail that he did. The details in fact only helped the story’s
center focus.
I agree that
Hosseini’s ability to describe the events in The Kite Runner realistically
is surprisingly amazing. As I said in my response, Hosseini did not sugar cote
his novel. This made the story much more interesting.
I agree that
the novel is amazing and straightforward. Its brevity is defiantly convenient
compared to Atlas Shrugged. Like you I would recommend The Kite
Runner to anyone because I loved this novel.
