Natalie's Response to Kaylee

Similar to Kaylee I was drawn in by Hassan and Amir’s relationship. I agree when Kaylee states that there are two sides to their friendship. One side is Hassan completely selfless side. He loves Amir very much and would literally do anything for him. The line “for you a thousand times over” is a really strong line, it clearly proved to be true and really displays Hassan’s love for Amir. I believe that there are two parts that make up Amir’s feelings for Hassan. One part of him loves that Hassan is always there for him and loves playing and hanging out with Hassan. We see this side when him and Hassan mess around outside, playing with slingshots or watching movies, and when Amir comforts Hassan after the soldier said vulgar things about his mother. The other part of Amir’s feelings towards Hassan mostly revolve around jealousy. Amir constantly gets jealous when Baba shows any amount of affection towards Hassan. Similarly he gets angry when Hassan points out what is wrong with his story. I believe this is why Amir would constantly play tricks on Hassan since he could not read and would lie to him. Overall it is evident that Amir cares for Hassan, but he is a very selfish person which is why things ended up how they did. Similar to Kaylee I enjoyed reading the novel and I thought that Hossenini did a great job exemplifying the destruction of war and jealousy.
