Kite Runner 1st Post
So far I have enjoyed the first 40 pages of the Kite Runner. The book is realistic and the way the author builds tension makes me want to keep reading at the end of every chapter. For example , in the first chapter Amir gets a call from Ali and says that he must atone for his sins. Right from the beginning we know Amir has done something awful and the reader is instantly intrigued. I think Amir and Hassan's friendship is really powerful despite the fact that they come from completely different sects of Islam and socioeconomic positions. When Amir says that nothing will ever change the fact that they come from different backgrounds, he immediately follows by saying that nothing will ever change the fact that they practically grew up as brothers. I think Amir knows deep down that their friendship is too powerful to be strained by something as arbitrary as religion or class. However, Amir can be extremely selfish and conceited at times which makes me think that he will betray Hassan at some point later in the book. The fact that he makes fun of Hassan for being illiterate is just plain cruel and I think that Hassan is too loyal to Amir at times.
